Margaret River Unplugged
The Margaret River Unplugged Wine and Vine
Experience has been created by Helena Chlepnac, founder of Margaret River
Unplugged, and Dr. Tony Proffitt, viticulturist and wine educator.
Cradled by the Indian and Great Southern
Oceans, the Margaret River wine region enjoys a gentle maritime climate of cool
wet winters and warm dry summers. Plentiful, pure water and idyllic Indian
summers provide superb growing conditions for many grape varietals and is also
superb for people.
The region’s geologically ancient decomposed
granite soils are well suited to grape growing. Combined with the favourable
climate and own-rooted grape cultivars, the vines and wines are alive with a
vivid core flavour and generous texture.
The Margaret River region hosts thousands of
tourists every season and many go on a wine and cellar door tour.
However, there is a gap in the wine education
market as visitors to the region are unable to learn about and experience wine
and the ‘terroir’ within which it is produced. The term ‘terroir’ embraces the
concept of how the elements of the natural environment in which the vines are
grown, collectively impact on the taste of a wine.
Helena Chlepnac and Tony Proffitt have
collaborated with winemakers and viticulturists, artisan food producers and
award winning chefs to offer the Margaret River Unplugged Wine and Vine
Experiences.
