I will start by saying that I have just finished (nearly) building two properties with Choice by Projex and it has been the worst building experience of my life. Sounds dramatic doesn't it! I have build 5 properties prior to the current builds with various other companies which were a dream compared to this experience.
Incompetence and indifference does not even begin to describe the whole shooting match from beginning to end. A summary of the highlights of my experience in building with this company are listed below: -
1. A lovely client liaison staff promised us the world including completion of both builds in less than 6 months (verbally of course) and only they just managed to scape in under the contract construction period of 18 months. Maintenance and issues are still being rectified and very slowly I might add. We still have no tenants in the properties two years after approaching Choice.
2. Zero accountability for anything. All work including engineering is sub contracted out to what I hesitate to describe as trades people. When I raised any issues with the office I was told to talk to the site team!!
3. Incompetent supervision who didn't actually supervise anything. We too are now on our third supervisor.
4. Indifference from the management team when issues raised to a higher level.
5. Mistakes in the energy efficiency calculations which were not checked by the Choice team resulting in us being charged for additional insulation which was not required. When I went through the calcs and raised the issue I was told that changing anything would result in more delays and just to keep quiet.
6. When brickwork was actually completed which took around 3 months, one of the properties sat with no roof structure for over a month.
7. Roof structure was not installed correctly and was only picked up by a building inspector which I hired as I was so concerned.
8. Concrete slab was constructed the wrong size and was only noticed by my wife when she randomly called in to have a look. Meanwhile the brickwork had continued regardless. An infill slab had to be poured to make good.
9. Emails and telephone calls ignored and placed in the too hard basket or difficult client tray.
10. Shower bases did not drain and left a big puddle...ETC, ETC, ETC.
.... I could go on. My hair is now a little greyer and I am most certainly a lot wiser than I was 2 years ago.
Bottom line...They may be cheap but definitely a false economy. Don't do it to yourself.
