Brain Cancer Treatment
When it comes to brain cancer, there is no standard treatment, as it is tailored towards the type, location, dimension of the tumor, and the medical status of the individual patient. The twin objectives during treatment are either to reduce the size of the tumor or eliminate it, manage the tumor-associated problems, and restore or increase quality of life. Whenever possible, surgery is the recommended form of treatment as this is conducted as the first steps whenever the tumor is within reach. The aim of the surgeons is to make the tumor resection as great as possible while preserving healthy brain tissues. In cases where the tumor cannot be completely excised, a biopsy may be performed for diagnostic purposes. Most often, this includes the use of radiation, where high-energy beams are used to kill cancerous cells and are routinely performed post-surgery, or when the cancerous tumor is inoperable. This may include external beam radiation or even more advanced methods like stereotactic radiosurgery which allows delivery of radiation within a single session directly onto the tumor. Chemotherapy may be employed either alone or in conjunction with surgery or in combination with radiation in the treatment of cancer as well. Drugs such as temozolomide are often used in the treatment of certain tumors such as glioblastomas Chernobyl. Boosted treatment with vincristine, temozolomide or imatinib cytotoxic drugs can be adopted for treatment of specific types of brain tumors. These therapies aim to inhibit the growth of cancer cells but preserve normal cells. Life after brain cancer treatment would depend upon the grading of the cancer. You would be happy that the treatment has ended. However, every ache or pain would make you think that the cancer is coming back. This feeling is normal.
