Costa Rica Health Passes and Immunizations
Costa Rican health insurance policies are heavily dependent on the country of citizenship of the policy holder. In order to receive full benefits, one must be insured at least for a year before travel. Costa Rica's health insurance rates are very affordable, and cover most healthcare-related expenses. A few exceptions are emergency room visits and some prescription drugs not covered in the policy. These issues should be discussed with your insurance provider in order to determine which services you can access when traveling to Costa Rica.
Costa Rica Health Pass is required for international travelers arriving at San Jose Airport to obtain health insurance. Three documents are required for applicants: the passport, the original bank account registration and a copy the applicant's immunization records. Important update Due to the high volume of post-natal tourists, there is a significant backlog of application requests resulting from delayed travel approvals. To increase access to the health care system, the government is planning to launch a lottery program later this year to enhance the approval process.
