You might need to change the Bigpond email server settings from IMAP to POP if you intend to download emails on your device and not leave copies on the server. It’s pretty easy to do the transition and all that you have to do is start with your email client, for example Outlook or Thunderbird, go to the account settings and find the Bigpond mail account with options to change or modify the settings.

The next step is changing the incoming server type from IMAP to POP. In more detail, please set the incoming mail server as pop.telstra.com, Port 995 and use SSL encryption. Furthermore, make sure to modify your SMTP settings to smtp.telstra.com with Port 465 or 587 and SSL turned on. It is very critical to enter your complete Bigpond email address as your username and the correct password.

Once these settings have been changed, it is handy to save them and check if everything is fine with the emails afterwards. It should also be noted that when using POP, your emails will get downloaded on the device used and removed from the server and therefore, it’s suggested that you first backup your important messages before proceeding with the change.
