Steps to Setup Bigpond Webmail in Thunderbird
To
configure BigPond Webmail in Thunderbird, you have to first open the program
and select the “Menu” button. Look up “Options” and follow it by choosing
“Account Settings.” Go to the bottom of the screen, click on “Account Actions”
and select the “Add Mail Account” option. Specify your name, provide your
BigPond email account in full, and add your password then proceed by clicking
“Continue”.
Thunderbird
will make an effort to configure these settings by itself. In the event that it
was unable to solve the problem, settings have to be configured manually. For
IMAP, the incoming server shall be imap.telstra.com, Port: 993, and SSL shall
be enabled. As for the SMTP outgoing server address use smtp.telstra.com with
Port: 465 or 587 and have SSL enabled. Or you may use POP with inbox server
pop.telstra.com and Port: 995 with SSL enabled. Ensure that the user ID remains
as his/her BigPond email account.
Press
the ‘Done’ button after saving the configuration. Whenever prompted, let
Thunderbird do the downloading, and follow the on-screen prompts to connect
with BigPond email account and download messages and folders. BigPond emails
can now be directly accessed on Thunderbird.
