Re-blocking, also known as Re-stumping, involves replacing the existing old stumps with new ones. It is required when the existing stumps (usually of timber) have deteriorated.
Many older weatherboard houses and some earlier solid brick and brick-veneer homes were built on timber stumps, which usually had a life span of up to 40 years.
Signs that the timber stumps may need replacing include uneven or sloping floors, and jamming doors and windows.
