Maxwell Plastic Surgery
Mr. Richard Maxwell is a third-generation doctor. He
graduated in medicine from Monash University in Melbourne in 1981. He trained
in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Alfred Hospital, the Royal
Melbourne Hospital and the Victorian Plastic Surgery Unit in Melbourne. He
completed his training in 1989, gaining the Fellowship of the Royal
Australasian College of Surgeons in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Mr. Maxwell spent the next two years in England doing
post-Fellowship training in General Plastic Surgery including Hand Surgery,
Burns, Paediatric Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery following cancer
removal and following motor vehicle and industrial trauma, followed by a
Fellowship in Cosmetic Surgery in Harley St. London. He concentrated on
Cosmetic Breast Surgery, spending time with Madeleine Le Jour and Daniel
Marchac in Europe and with G. Patrick Maxwell in Nashville, Tennessee, all
major figures in the development of the ‘short horizontal scar’ and ‘vertical
scar’ techniques of breast reduction and mastopexy. Mr. Maxwell was one of the
first plastic surgeons to use these techniques in Australia.
In 1991, Mr. Maxwell returned to Melbourne and established
himself in private practice, at the same time working in the public hospital
system at the Alfred Hospital, performing reconstructive surgery on motor
vehicle and workplace accident victims and cancer reconstructive surgery. He
was a member of the Victorian Melanoma Service from its inception in 1994 until
he left public hospital work in 2003 to concentrate on his private practice.
Whilst Mr. Maxwell continues to perform general plastic
surgery and hand surgery, his main interest is in cosmetic surgery. In addition
to the more familiar Cosmetic Procedures such as Rhinoplasty, Facelift, Eyelid
Surgery, Breast Reduction, Breast Enlargement, Abdominoplasty, and Liposuction,
Mr. Maxwell has a particular interest and expertise in Body Contouring
including Bodylifting after Massive Weight Loss. He spent time with Drs. Al Aly
and Albert Cram in Iowa City, U.S.A., two of the recognised world experts in
body contouring surgery following massive weight loss.
In his surgical practice, Mr. Maxwell’s commitment is to
achieve the optimal outcome for every patient. Near enough is not good enough.
Whilst people may say that cosmetic surgery is merely to satisfy one’s vanity,
Mr. Maxwell has many patients whose lives have been ‘turned around’ by their
surgery, in particular the improvement in their self-confidence and
self-esteem.
