My view is that if
you love the sport already, you'll LOVE competing. The atmosphere is great,
people are generally very friendly and supportive, and you'll get to watch
lifters much better than yourself and learn a lot.
If you're 160lbs,
you're really right in between the 69kg (152lbs) and 77kg (170lbs) classes.
You'd obviously do better dropping down to the 69's if you can, or try to just
get as strong as possible and let yourself bulk up a few pounds to compete as a
full 77.
At 5'5 123lbs, if
you're male, you'd be in the 56kg class, which has VERY little competition in
the US. If you're thinking of going to the Olympics, then yes, you've probably
started too late, unless you're already an extremely strong individual.
