Magnesium
sulfate itself is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol,
glycerin, ether, insoluble in acetone.
Anhydrous
magnesium sulfate is easy to absorb water and magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is
easy to dehydrate. The main production method of magnesium sulfate is obtained
by adding sulfuric acid decomposition or neutralization of magnesium oxide,
magnesium hydroxide, magnesium carbonate and diamondback soil as raw materials.
There
are also by-products of potassium chloride production as raw materials, mixed
in proportion with the mother liquor containing magnesium after bromine
preparation, cooled and crystallized to separate crude magnesium sulfate, and
then heated, filtered, removed impurity, cooled and crystallized to obtain
industrial magnesium sulfate. It can also be prepared by heating and
concentrating bittern, crystallization separation or carbonization of aqueous
suspension of magnesium oxide and gypsum.
Oral
magnesium sulfate has a good purgatory function, so magnesium sulfate is also
called Epsom salt. Magnesium sulfate can be applied externally to reduce
swelling, used to treat limb swelling after trauma, to help improve rough skin,
etc.
The
packing of magnesium sulfate should be complete and safe at the time of
shipment. Ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall or damage
during transportation. It is strictly prohibited to be mixed with oxidants and
edible chemicals. Storage should be stored in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep
away from fire and heat. Protect from direct sunlight. The package is sealed. Should
be stored separately from oxidizing agent, avoid mixed storage by all means. The
storage area shall be provided with suitable materials to hold the leakage.
