A Brief History of Subway

The Subway brand started more than 50 years ago in a small town in America. Dr. Peter Buck, a nuclear physicist, spoke a few simple words to a college student, “Let’s open a submarine sandwich shop.” That college freshman, Fred DeLuca, developed the idea to open a submarine sandwich shop in order to help pay his tuition. Peter actually provided an initial investment of $1000, along with the advice. And a business relationship was started that would change the landscape of the fast food industry along with the lives of thousands of people.

The first restaurant was opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut. They served fresh, affordable, made to order sandwiches. The popularity of the sandwiches and the brand continued to grow over the decades but one thing remained the same and that was their core values and principles.
