It all began with Élie Metchnikoff, or atleast I think so. Élie Metchnikoff was a russian scientist which suggested back in 1907 that we could prolong the quality of life as well as the quantity, as in prolonging life, improving longevity, through modifying the human microbiome and making it healthier and making it so it would work to our benefit. Back then we didn't know not even half of what we know right now about healthy bacteria, probiotics and we are just beginning to learn and understand more about them, but he was definitely right.
The microbiome or the microbiota is the community of microorganisms that live in the human body.
Anyone can tell you that you get them from food and that is indeed your main source of probiotics, you get these healthy bacteria, mostly Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium from drinking wine, beer, eating kefir, sauerkraut, fermented cheese, pickles, yogurt and so on, as you can see they are all obtained through fermentation, these bacteria help preserve the food as well. However the microbiome is more than just probiotics, it is composed of pathogens as well, microbes, germs, these you can take from many other sources such as dirt or soil, other people and not just through touching but activities like kissing, the kind of kiss that involved the tongue and exchanging saliva which is filled with bacteria but most of them are thought to be safe and healthy so you won't like die or get sdome disease from kissing another person if that person is healthy.
