The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides direct funds to its participants to purchase supports and services that will help them pursue a meaningful and quality life. The kind of support funded by the NDIS always falls under the ‘reasonable and necessary’ criteria. That means the participants can spend their NDIS funds only on support and services directly related to their disability which will help them pursue their goals and aspirations.
NDIS Participants can exercise their ‘choice and control’ over their NDIS fund and the support purchased with them at all times. But they are not allowed to spend their NDIS funds on personal expenses not related to their disability. Also, no one can use the NDIS fund other than the eligible participant who receives it. As a participant, you must only pay for the support and services delivered to you. If you have plan management included in your NDIS plan, your plan manager will ensure that the invoices from your service providers are promptly paid. It is always recommended to have a service agreement with your providers to avoid any misunderstandings and to make sure that the terms of the services are clear. The NDIS funds enable the participants to become as independent as possible in life but it is not a substitution for a regular income.
If you are confused about the dos and don’ts of utilising your NDIS funds, Plan Guard plan managers can walk you through the NDIS guidelines. Through our plan management services, we can help you manage your NDIS funds effectively and efficiently. We are a registered plan management service provider based in Western Australia.
