Bubble Back Gel packs also sometimes know as Anti Freeze Ice pack or Freeze proof ice pack. These Bubble ice packs are commonly used in cold chain applications in the pharmaceutical industry in situations where the products or specimens that are stored closer to the gel pack receive more of the cold energy and thereby can sometimes affect the integrity of the specimen or product by causing a freeze burn. Sometimes the gel packs work so well that they may actually freeze the complete specimen which can sometimes affect the integrity of the product. A good example here is chocolates. The bubble wrap on one side of the ice pack act as an insulation barrier between the specimen and the ice pack. The bubble gel packs help direct the chillness away from the payload so the most popular model of bubble ice packs have a layer of bubble wrap sealed on one side of the ice pack.
