In regards to wthheer this is true only under Colorado law or also in other state's, I do not know. As I am licensed only in Colorado, I cannot comment on other state's laws and how the state will interpret them. For example, this series is going to cover 12 specific areas that are covered under CO statutes. In addition, the last few posts will cover dozens more that don't have full sections dedicated to them but still have to follow specific laws (for instance, Slaughters do not have all the regulations that Doctors do, but only a few so they register just like normal corporations following certain industry specific rules). Hopefully, this series will give you some ideas about what areas may be regulated, but if you are in another state, I recommend contacting a business attorney in that state for clarification on businesses there. Other state's may regulate types of businesses that Colorado doesn't.In regards to owners being liable, in Colorado, several areas I can think of would be harm caused by egregious behavior, illegal acts, or fraud. For instance, if a chiropractor uses something that he knows has been found to be harmful to a patient, he may not be covered by insurance. Another example is an engineer who designs a building knowing it would not pass inspection because he disagrees with the client's business. There may be additional times that someone may be liable personally too – these are just a few examples.
